LEXINGTON, KY (March 18, 2024) — The Lexington Community Orchestra (LCO) will present their 2023-24 season finale concert at 3:00pm on Sunday, April 28 at Bryan Station High School. This “Celebration of Sibelius'' program includes music exclusively by late-romantic, early modern era composer Jean Sibelius. Perhaps best known worldwide for his tone poem Finlandia, Sibelius is widely regarded as the greatest composer from Finland and credited with strengthening the nation’s identity in the late 19th century. In addition to Finlandia, the orchestra will perform his Symphony No. 1 in E minor. This performance features Dr. Sila Darville, assistant professor of violin and viola at Eastern Kentucky University, as soloist for Sibelius’s Violin Concerto in D minor. Dr. Darville holds degrees from Istanbul Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University State Conservatory, University of Minnesota and Texas Tech University. She has performed with the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra, Paducah Symphony Orchestra and Louisville Orchestra. This is her first appearance with the Lexington Community Orchestra.
